Skippylongstocking Headlines Field for Cornhusker

Skippylongstocking  returns to the track following a 77-day hiatus, leading a field of 10 in the Cornhusker Handicap (G3) at Prairie Meadows July 8. The $300,000 Cornhusker is 1 1/8 miles on the dirt for 3-year-olds and up. 

The 4-year-old son of Exaggerator  last ran April 22 at Keeneland, a fifth-place effort in the Ben Ali Stakes (G3). Skippylongstocking has alternating wins and losses across six starts over the last 11 months. He would be in line for a win Saturday.

Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Skippylongstocking is one of three in the field who have run the 1 1/8-mile distance five times, winning twice, most recently last year's West Virginia Derby (G3).

The field's only Iowa-bred is Ain't Life Grand , a homebred for Peggy and Ray Shattuck's RPM Thoroughbreds, who has posted back-to-back wins—the Jim and Sandra Rasmussen Stakes at Prairie Meadows and the Lake Ouachita Stakes at Oaklawn Park. The son of Not This Time   has picked up wins in his last four starts at Prairie Meadows, which started with a victory in last year's Iowa Derby. 

Five-year-old Warrant , the only millionaire in the field, comes into the race off of a fourth-place finish in the Brooklyn Stakes (G2) last month at Belmont Park. Scaling back in distance from 1 1/2 miles, which he's run the last three times out, may prove beneficial. 

Rounding out the field are Call Me Fast , Double Thunder , Fleetridge , Frosted Grace , Giant Game , Paluxy , and Promise Keeper .
