Evangeline Downs Stakes Taken Off Turf

Description:

Because of to extremely wet conditions from heavy rains earlier in the week, management at Evangeline Downs has decided to move the three turf races scheduled for its May 30 program to the main track.

Those races are the $100,000 Opelousas Stakes, the $300,000 Evangeline Downs Turf Sprint, and the 11th race, an allowance/optional claiming event.

"Our foremost concern is for the health and safety of the jockeys and horses participating in today's races, and after a thorough evaluation of the turf course by our racing department this morning, we have decided that the turf course will not be ready for competition this afternoon," said Steve Kuypers, vice president of Boyd Gaming, parent company for Evangeline Downs. "We still look forward to an outstanding program of racing later today, highlighted by our five stakes races and our $100,000 guaranteed Pick 4."

First post on today's 12-race program is 3:05 p.m. CDT.
