Opened in June 1938, Hollywood Park was closed following the end of its fall meeting in December 2013. The original grandstand was destroyed by fire in 1949. The structure that came down Sunday morning opened in 1950.

The Inglewood, Calif. track was the site of inaugural Breeders’ Cup in 1984 and it also hosted the event in 1987. On its final day of racing in 2013, a 2-year-old California Chrome began a six-race winning streak when he routed a field of 10, by 6 1/4 lengths, in the King Glorious Stakes.
