When it comes to enjoying a libation during the Triple Crown, each race has its own tradition. The Kentucky Derby is known for the Mint Julep, The Preakness Stakes has the Black-Eyed Susan and, most recently, the Belmont Stakes has named their signature cocktail the Belmont Jewel.
In previous years, the signature cocktail for the Belmont Stakes was called the Belmont Breeze, which has gone through a number of updates throughout the years. Here's the current Belmont Jewel recipe, which can be found on the official Belmont Stakes website:
Belmont Jewel Cocktail
1.5 oz Knob Creek Bourbon
2 oz Lemonade
1 oz Pomegranate Juice
Add all of the above ingredients into a shaker with ice and serve in a rocks glass or signature Belmont Stakes glass.
If you’re at Belmont Park, in most cases your Belmont Jewel will be served in a winner’s highball glass specific to the year of the race. If you are hosting a watch party and want to get in the spirit, the glasses can be purchased on the Belmont Stakes website.
I decided to use these horsethemed rocks glasses from Crate and Barrel, aren't these great? (They are currently on clearance if you'd like to buy them, so hurry!)
To make things easier for your watch party, multiply the recipe and make an entire pitcher! This refreshing cocktail is sure to be a hit with friends while (hopefully) watching American Pharoah become the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years!
Best of luck to you this weekend. Cheers!
