Hutcheson in Sight for Corfu, Trail Blaze

After breezing colts Corfu and Trail Blaze the morning of Jan. 26 at Palm Meadows Training Center, trainer Todd Pletcher said both may run next in the upcoming Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II).
Trail Blaze went five furlongs in a bullet 1:00.70, best of 25 at the distance, while Corfu was timed in 1:00.90, which was ranked second best.
"They worked well. We'll see how they come out of it and go from there," Pletcher said. "They're both under consideration."
The $200,000 Hutcheson, contested at seven furlongs, is Feb. 1 at Gulfstream Park.
Trail Blaze was fourth in Gulfstream's Spectacular Bid Stakes Jan. 4, just his second start. The son of Indian Charlie, who debuted with a win over maidens Nov. 20 at Aqueduct Racetrack, is owned by Stonestreet Stables, George Bolton, Peter Leidel, and Biagi Thoroughbreds.
Corfu, by Malibu Moon , is winless in four starts since breaking his maiden at first asking at Saratoga Race Course last summer and coming back to win the Saratoga Special (gr. II), both in gate-to-wire fashion. The bay is owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith.
Second in the Futurity (gr. II) at Belmont Park in the fall, Corfu was most recently last of six, beaten 17 1/4 lengths, in the six-furlong Spectacular Bid. He has worked once on the turf at Palm Meadows Jan. 20.
Also working on Sunday for Pletcher were Catron, who went five furlongs in 1:01.30 and is being considered for the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint (gr. III) Feb. 8; Commissioner, being pointed to the $400,000 Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth (gr. II), a half-mile in :49.40; and grade I winner Palace Malice, timed for a half in :50.50.
