Champion Untapable Formidable in Ogden Phipps

Description:

Untapable will try to unleash the same form that saw her cruise to victory in the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) when the champion daughter of Tapit   returns from a short layoff to face an expected five other fillies and mares in the $1 million Ogden Phipps Stakes (gr. I) June 6 at Belmont Park.

While the Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred will be making her first start since April 10, trainer Steve Asmussen has noted that last year's champion 3-year-old filly races well with some rest between races.

Her April 10 Apple Blossom victory at Oaklawn Park marked the fifth grade I score for Untapable, who will be returning to Belmont for the first time since her overpowering victory in last year's Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I), where her closest rival finished 9 1/4 lengths behind. Since May 18, Untapable has worked twice on the Belmont main track and most recently on the Belmont training track, where she completed four furlongs June 1 in a bullet :49.5.

Saturday's field also includes the top-four finishers from the Ruffian Stakes (gr. II) May 9 at Belmont in Godolphin Racing's Wedding Toast, a 5-year-old Street Sense   mare who won the Ruffian by four lengths; runner-up Princess Violet, by Officer, who entered off a victory in the Madison Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland; and third-place House Rules, a 4-year-old Distorted Humor   filly who entered off a victory in the Top Flight Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct Racetrack; and fourth-place Shayjolie, by Indian Charlie, a previous stakes winner.

The field's other grade I winner is Bethlehem Stables, Michael Dubb, and Highclere America's Rosalind, who scored a dead-heat victory in last year's Ashland Stakes (gr. I) on the former Polytrack at Keeneland for then owner Landaluce Educe Stables and trainer Ken McPeek. Now conditioned by Chad Brown, the 4-year-old Broken Vow   filly enters Saturday's race off a clear victory in the Sheepshead Bay Stakes (gr. II) May 2 on the Belmont turf.
