A racy son of Vronsky (Hip 114) sold for $100,000 to top the Aug. 15 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale, which posted year-over-year result increases.
The sale-topping colt is the first foal out of the Acclamation mare Back to the River, bred in California by consignor Harris Farms and Gary Parker, he was purchased by PT Syndicate #1 and Meister, their sole purchase of the sale.
Bidding at the Alameda County Fairgrounds was robust early on as the first yearling in the ring, a filly (Hip 3) by Stay Thirsty , sold for $80,000 to Mark and Michael Wilkes. The filly, out of the winning Indian Charlie mare Letsgotovegas, was consigned by Lovacres Ranch and bred by Terry Lovingier in California.
Mark and Michael Wilkes purchased a total of three horses for a gross of $126,000, at an average of $42,000 to be the sales leading buyer.
Lovacres Ranch sold all of their 27 head draft for gross receipts of $282,400, at an average of $10,459 to be the sales leading consignor.
Tuesday concluded with 118 horses sold of the 138 on offer for gross receipts of $1,075,600, showing a year-on-year increase of 11.8%. The average price rose 15.6% to $9,115 and the median increased by 22.2% to $5,500.
Last year, 122 horses were traded of the 134 through the ring for a gross of $962,100, at an average of $7,886 and median of $4,500 per horse.
