Canterbury Park Trainer Litfin Summarily Suspended

The Minnesota Racing Commission's board of stewards at Canterbury Park summarily suspended trainer Nevada Litfin Aug. 16 for actions detrimental to the integrity of racing. During the summary suspension, the Shakopee-based trainer is denied privileges to the grounds of all racetracks under the jurisdiction of the Minnesota Racing Commission.

Litfin was cited for various rule infractions, including:

  • 789.7.0100 (Prohibited Acts) Subp. 7. Cooperation with Security Officers. 
  • 789.7.0100 (Prohibited Acts) Subp. 17 A. Hypodermic equipment and injectable substances are prohibited.
  • 789.7.0100 (Prohibited Acts) Subp. 20. Possession, administration to, or presence in a horse of a prohibited drug, substance, medication, or metabolites, biological product, growth hormone, hormone-releasing, venom, or synthetic analog of venom.

A hearing date was not noted on the published ruling posted to the MRC website. The Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit has not posted alleged violations on Litfin as of Thursday morning.

Litfin began training horses in 2000, seeing his most successful season this year with a record of 21-14-17 in 139 starts, with earnings of $437,296. The multiple stakes-winning trainer's last starts came Aug. 13, with Ain'tnosweetie  winning the second race at Canterbury Park among three other starters. He is currently tied for sixth by wins in the Canterbury trainer standings.

Litfin sits on lifetime achievements of 2,126 starts and a record of 194-214-245, with his horses earning $3,493,023.
