Disarm , who was the runner-up in the Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 26, will be sidelined for the rest of the year.
The 3-year-old colt's trainer Steve Asmussen told the Daily Racing Form Sept. 2 that the son of Gun Runner has been sent to Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington.
"Just came out of it pretty jammed up," Asmussen said.
Prior to his one-length defeat to Arcangelo , Disarm had run six other times this year never finishing worse than fourth. He won the Matt Winn Stakes (G3); finished second in the Louisianna Derby (G2); and third in the Lexington Stakes (G3). Among his other outings is a fourth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby where Disarm crossed the wire 4 1/2 lengths behind victor Mage .
"It's quite obvious how much of a future he has, but he has to be 100%," Asmussen said. "He's good, he's so close to being great."
The Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred is 1-3-1 from seven starts with $930,450 in earnings. For his career, he is 2-3-2 from 9 starts with $1,000,200 in winnings.
Asmussen added that following his evaluation at Rood and Riddle, Disarm will get some time off at Winchell's farm in Lexington.
"We'll see on his evaluation what (Bramlage) recommends from a time standpoint," Asmussen said.
Disarm is out of the Tapit mare Easy Tap.
