Gloria Russo's final bid of CA$61,000 on a filly by Sungold , who was bred and sold by Bryan and Carol Anderson, topped the Aug. 30 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (British Columbia) Yearling and Mixed Sale.
Russo was the sale's leading buyer having spent CA$178,000 on six yearlings, three of them by Sungold, who has been a fixture among British Columbia's top five sires for the last several years. Sungold is a son of A.P. Indy and stands at Flying Horse Farm.
The overall gross sales slid approximately 10% to CA$882,000 due to 13 fewer horses changing hands this year compared to a year ago. The overall average price, however, rose 16% to CA$20,045.
Yearlings accounted for the vast majority of the horses sold (41 of the 44 total sold). The yearling average was up 20% to CA$21,366 and the median was up 24% to CA$21,000 from a year ago.
Sungold was the leading sire by average (two or more sold) at CA$34,750 from four sold. Emerald Acres' Pop Artist was represented by two averaging CA$33,000, and the farm's Lent was represented by most sold with seven that averaged CA$21,429.
Emerald Acres was the leading consignor with gross sales of CA$192,500 from seven sold. Wild Rose Farm, owned by the Andersons, was the second-leading consignor with total sales of CA$142,000 from three sold. The Andersons bred the sale topper out of the After Market winner Revealing Moment , a full sister to multiple grade 1 winner Belle Gallantey .
