With a sustained inside rally through the uphill stretch at Kentucky Downs, Private Creed posted a 2 1/4-length victory Sept. 9 over filly Playlist in the $968,000 Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G2T).
Entered by trainer Steve Asmussen as a two-time stakes winner who finished third in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T), Private Creed landed his first graded stakes score Saturday. The son of Jimmy Creed completed the 6 1/2-furlong test for 3-year-olds in 1:17.03 on firm turf. He paid $14.02 to win.
• With the victory Mike McCarty's Private Creed landed his second win in as many starts at Kentucky Downs, improving his earnings to more than $1.2 miliion. Bred in Kentucky by Sierra Farm, he also won last year's Juvenile Sprint Stakes at Kentucky Downs.
• The victory gave jockey Joel Rosario wins in three of Saturday's first eight races, including a score aboard Vergara in the Ladies Marathon Stakes (G3T).
* Playlist and third-place Sweet Cherry Pie each earned placings in their graded stakes debuts.
"It was a little soft, but he needed it and he trained beautifully into this race," Asmussen said. "And this was the target for him since he won over here last year."
Jimmy Creed stood the 2023 season for $10,000 at Spendthrift Farm. Private Creed is the third graded stakes winner this season for Jimmy Creed, joining grade 1 winner Casa Creed and grade 3 winner Joey Freshwater.
