Bentornato, Welcome Back Give D'Angelo FL Sires Sweep 

Bentornato  remained undefeated with a widening 7 1/2-length win as the odds-on favorite in the Sept. 9 $100,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes, giving trainer Jose D'Angelo a sweep of both the afternoon's races for 2-year-olds sired by accredited Florida stallions at Gulfstream Park. 

• D'Angelo said he will point the son of Valiant Minister to the next two legs of the Florida Sire Stakes, the $200,000 Affirmed at seven furlongs Oct. 21 and the $300,000 In Reality at 1 1/16 miles Dec. 2.
• Dickens  was a game second, with Jive  another 1 1/2 lengths back in third. 
• All three of Bentornato's wins have been in one-turn sprints but D'Angelo said, "I think he will go longer, because of the way he trains."
• Bentornato was purchased for $170,000 at the OBS March sale for 2-year-olds in training.

Welcome Back Overcomes Tough Trip in Desert Vixen 

Bentornato is Italian for "welcome back," which is the name of the D'Angelo-trained winner of the $100,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Desert Vixen Stakes for fillies earlier on the card.

• Welcome Back  went off favored after morning line choice R Harper Rose  scratched before the races due to fever.
• The Soldi Stable homebred daughter of Adios Charlie steadied around the turn in the six-furlong race and had to go six-wide but still managed to get up by a nose over Mist .
• Welcome Back will be pointed to the Oct. 21 $200,000 Susan's Girl, the seven-furlong second leg of the Florida Sire Stakes series.

Despite their interchangeable names, Bentornato and Welcome Back have different ownership, breeders, and parentage. D'Angelo is the only common denominator.
