The opening session of Book 2 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale got underway Sept. 13 with an Into Mischief   filly catching the eye of Lee and Susan Searing of CRK Stables. Agent Dottie Ingordo, signing as Mayberry Farm, inked the sales slip at $875,000 for the bay out of Test Stakes (G1) placed Belle of the Hall .

Consigned by Hill' n' Dale at Xalapa as Hip 451 for Kentucky breeder Seclusive Farm, the filly is a half sibling to the grade 3 winning son of Candy Ride  , Share the Ride .

"She was shown almost 200 times; everybody loved her," Jared Burdine, general manager for Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa, said. "She was the belle of book 2, a beautiful filly. She did everything right each day."

The January-born bay will head to the West Coast to join John Shirreffs stable.

"She's a big, strong-looking filly, and we love Into Mischief," Dottie Ingordo said. "She had a nice pedigree, and when John was here doing inspections, he thought she was a 'wow'—it was a concurrent thought."

The price was right in line with what Ingordo appraised: "We rated her at $900,000 to $1 million, so she was right in the scope, and Lee said we had a deal. He had to fly home for a few meetings but plans to return Thursday, and it will be time to have some fun."

Constitution Leaves His Mark During Third Session

Two colts by Constitution  , selling consecutively as Hips 425 and 426, brought similarly lofty prices during the early part of the Wednesday session, acquired for $700,000 and $775,000.

High-powered connections acquired the two yearlings with West Bloodstock buying Hip 425 for Robert and Lawana Low and bloodstock agent Donato Lanni purchasing the Hip 426 for SF Racing, Starlight Racing, and Madaket Stables. Peter Callaghan's Woods Edge Farm and Eaton Sales consigned them, respectively.

Jabob West of West Bloodstock also serves as the racing manager for the Lows, who often have Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher as their trainer.

Hip 425 is a bay colt out of the stakes-placed American Doll , a half sister to 2021 champion older dirt mare Letruska . Hip 425, bred by Woods Edge Farm, is related to three foals of racing age, two of them winners. This includes 3-year-old Mischievous Doll  (Into Mischief), who is 1-for-7 with earnings of $56,367.

The Breeze Easy-bred Hip 426 is a dark bay or brown yearling out Bayern  mare American Model , who ran sixth at Gulfstream Park in her one start. She has one foal of racing age, a 2-year-old Frosted   filly, who is unraced.

Hip 426's partners are among the principals in a large partnership that runs many of its top horses with Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert in Southern California. Lanni plays an instrumental role on their team that selects young prospects.

Constitution, who entered stud in 2016, stood the 2023 season for an advertised fee of $110,000 at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky. The 2020 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Tiz the Law   is his top earner. Two of his top current runners are graded stakes winners Treason  and Webslinger .

Besides Hips 425 and 426, Constitution had one other yearling sell for more than half a million dollars Wednesday when Hip 522, out of Faithfully , sold to Klaravich Stables for $525,000.
