Lanni Loads Up on Day 6 of Keeneland September Sale

Perennial leading buyer Donato Lanni, agent for SF/Starlight/Madaket, signed for a quartet of yearlings Sept. 17, led by the $799,000 Candy Ride   colt (Hip 1791). The chestnut, named Musical, was consigned by Bridie Harrison, agent for Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds to Book 3 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

The colt out of Melody comes from the family of Blum's foundation mare Lady of Choice, dam of Proposal, a stakes-placed producer of Turf Amazon Handicap winner Inspired , Southwest Stakes (G3) second Silver City , Gallant Bloom Handicap placed Elope , and Glorious Song Stakes winner Initiation .

Proposal's Unbridled's Song sister Lady Godiva is the dam of grade 1 winning sire Leofric  , by Candy Ride.

Lanni also purchased a Not This Time   colt (Hip 1554) from consignor/breeder Hinkle Farms for $400,000 earlier in the day. Out of the stakes placed Declaration of War  mare, Wexx , the yearling comes from the family of grade 1 winner Jack Milton .

Next was a $450,000 Hard Spun   colt (Hip 1627) from the Hidden Brook draft. The Douglas Scharbauer Kentucky-bred is out of stakes-placed Brinkley  and half sibling to the West Coast   juvenile, Coastal Brink, and stakes-placed Bobby Brinkley . The City Zip mare is half sibling to the millionaire earner Bound for Nowhere , by The Factor  .

Sunday's fourth purchase was a $270,000 Constitution   colt (Hip 1702) from Burleson Farms. Out of the Ghostzapper   mare Firsttime Longtime, a half sibling to Preakness Stakes (G1) winning sire Oxbow   and grade 3 placed sire Awesome Patriot .

The Colts Neck Stables-bred carries the prolific Cee's Song under his third dam. The Seattle Song mare produced champion 3-year-old colt and twice Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Tiznow, Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2) victor Budroyale, and Sorrento Stakes (G2) winning mare Tiz Dubai.

Lanni's four purchases on Day 6 for gross figures of $1,820,000 landed him as the session-leading buyer.

Over the past six sessions, the partnership of SF/Starlight/Madaket, with Lanni signing, has made 19 purchases for receipts of $11,890,000, at an average of $625,789 to be the sales leading buyer.
