Gentry Farms' Accomplished Girl lived up to her name in the $298,500 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2) Sept. 18 at Presque Isle Downs where she wired the field to capture her first black-type stakes.
The 3-year-old daughter of Street Boss bred in Kentucky by Jack Swain III had been racing primarily on the turf but provided a sign she might relish Presque Isle Downs' all-weather surface after winning a 5 1/2-furlong allowance/optional claiming race gate-to-wire July 16 on Gulfstream Park's synthetic track.
Accomplished Girl began racing this year and won her second career start at Gulfstream Park for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. in a five-furlong turf sprint at Gulfstream Park with Edgard Zayas in the irons. Zayas was aboard for the 6 1/2-furlong Masters and gave her the front-running trip she seems the most comfortable taking. She took the field through opening fractions of :23.30 and :45.99. Midnight Stroll and Marissa's Lady unleashed powerful challenges in the stretch and compressed the gaps with the leader but could not catch her. Accomplished Girl won by three-quarters of a length with Midnight Stroll a head in front of Marissa's Lady. The final time was 1:15.29.
"She was amazing today," Zayas said about Accomplished Girl. "She broke out of there running. As soon as she got to the lead, her ears went up and was great the rest of the way. She kept digging in late when the fillies started to come to her. I think the easier first quarter-mile helped her late."
