In significant acts of generosity, trainer Bob Baffert and his wife, Jill, along with jockey Victor Espinoza, announced they will donate to several charities following
American Pharoah's Triple Crown triumph June 7.
The Bafferts will be donating $50,000 each to the following charities: the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), the California Retirement Aftercare Account (CARMA), the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), and Old Friends Farm in Kentucky.
Espinoza, who has actively supported City of Hope for several years, will donate his entire Belmont Stakes presented by DraftKings (gr. I) purse earnings, $80,000, to the nationally renowned cancer research and treatment facility which is located in Duarte, Calif.
Also during Belmont week, Zayat Stables owner Ahmed Zayat and his family donated $100,000 to the Belmont Child Care Association's Anna House located on the backstretch of the track.
