Merry Maker wins the Lonesome Glory Handicap at Aqueduct

The connections of Merry Maker  hope the Irish-bred steeplechaser can continue his good form when he starts in the $250,000 Grand National Stakes (NSA-1) Oct. 21 at Far Hills.

Merry Maker broke through with his first top-level steeplechase score Sept. 14 in the Lonesome Glory Handicap (NSA-1) at the Belmont at the Big A meeting.

In Saturday's Grand National all eight expected starters—a field that includes veteran top-level steeplechase winner Snap Decision —are scheduled to carry 156 pounds. Snap Decision finished fourth as the favorite in the Lonesome Glory, where he spotted Merry Maker 20 pounds.

Also entered in the Grand National is Jimmy P , who is campaigned by Paul and Molly Willis and breeder Sol Kumin's Madaket Stables.
