Miss Code West wins the Oklahoma Classics Lassie Stakes at Remington Park

Miss Code West  became the first stakes winner for second-crop sire Code West   by improving to 2-for-2, taking the $76,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie Oct. 20 at Remington Park. The Classics Lassie was contested at six furlongs for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred fillies.

Miss Code West went straight to the front and dominated the Classics Lassie by two lengths under Floyd Wethey Jr. Kevin Scholl trains her for owners Jeffry and Julie Puryear.

Letta's Legacy  chased the winning filly throughout. Kiss and Tell  was third.

"She's very smart," said Scholl. "She's done everything the way she's supposed to."

CODE WEST

  • Code West, now 13, enjoyed a long, productive racing career, winning races at ages 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7. 
  • The son of Lemon Drop Kid  won the Matt Winn Stakes (G3) as a 3-year-old in his most significant victory.
  • He stood the 2023 season for an advertised fee of $2,000 at WestWin Farms in Purcell, Okla. He entered stud in 2019.

Miss Code West returned $5.40 to win for her backers in capturing Friday's race. She was timed on a fast track in 1:12.92.

Bred in Oklahoma by Bryan Hawk out of the Kipling  mare Inca Miss , Miss Code West earned $45,600 in Friday's race following a debut win Oct. 5. her winnings now stand at $65,694.
