Ashford Stud's Lookin at Lucky , a dual champion and regular shuttle stallion since 2011, will remain in Chile during the 2024 Northern Hemisphere breeding season, the farm confirmed Oct. 26.
The 16-year-old son of Smart Strike shuttled one season to Australia in 2011 and then became an almost annual traveler to Chile. He began shuttling to South America in 2012 and has made the trip eight additional times since then. Lookin At Lucky has been standing most recently at Don Alberto.
Lookin At Lucky has been extraordinarily successful in Chile, where he's sired six of eight lifetime champions and 69% of his 74 lifetime black-type winners. His best performers in Chile include 2018 Horse of the Year and multiple champion Wow Cat, who won the 2018 Beldame Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park and was runner-up that year in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). He also sired four champion 2-year-olds in Chile—Hongkong Great, Royal Luck, Dafonda, and Muy Gracioso—and a Chilean champion older mare in Bahia Linda.
In North America, his best performers included 2018 champion older dirt male and Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Accelerate ; 2019 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Country House ; Canadian classic winner Breaking Lucky , who won the Prince of Wales Stakes; and, multiple graded stakes winners Diamond Oops , Madefromlucky , and Money Multiplier .
Lookin At Lucky won five grade 1 stakes, including the Preakness Stakes (G1), and was named 2009 Eclipse champion 2-year-old colt and 2010 champion 3-year-old colt.
