Five Breeders' Cup Hopefuls Breeze at Keeneland

In Italian breezes an easy five furlongs on the Keeneland Turf Oct. 28

Five horses pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup wrapped up their serious preparations for the Nov. 3-4 World Championships with works Oct. 28 at Keeneland.

  • Grade 1 winner Brightwork , entered in the Juvenile Fillies (G1) (first choice) and the Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T) (second choice), breezed a half-mile in :47 4/5 for trainer John Ortiz. Brightwork is the first grade 1 winner for Ortiz.
  • First Lady Stakes (G1) winner Gina Romantica , entered in the Mile (G1T) (first preference) and the Filly and Mare Turf (G1T) (second preference) breezed four furlongs in :47 1/5 in company with grade 3 Liguria  for trainer Chad Brown. (Click here for a video of the work.)
  • Grade 1 winner Proxy  , who finished second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup last month, completed a half-mile in :48 2/5 as he is prepared for the Classic (G1)) by trainer Mike Stidham.
