Southern California-based My Sweet Addiction, winner of the grade I Vanity Stakes last time out, faces five fillies and mares coming out of the May 1 La Troienne Stakes (gr. I) at Churchill Downs in the June 13 Fleur de Lis Stakes (gr. II) under the Twin Spires.
The $200,000 Fleur de Lis will go as race seven with an approximate post time of 9:08 p.m. EDT on a program that features the grade I Stephen Foster Stakes and a scheduled appearance by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.
My Sweet Addiction, bred and owned by Pamela Ziebarth, is by Tiznow —campaigned by her mother Cecilia Straub-Rubens—out of the grade I-winning Healthy Addiction, by Boston Harbor.
She won the nine-furlong Vanity May 9 at Santa Anita Park while on the front end under Mike Smith. Trainer Marty Jones has again called on the Hall of Fame jockey to ride My Sweet Addiction going 1 1/8 miles. She sports a 4-3-2 mark from 10 starts and has earned $223,450.
From the La Troienne comes runner-up Sheer Drama, third-place finisher Gold Medal Dancer, fourth-place finisher Tiz Windy, seventh-place finisher America, and ninth-place finisher Frivolous.
Sheer Drama sat just off the pace in the 1 1/16-mile La Troienne and just missed to Molly Morgan by three-quarters of a length as the 2-1 favorite. Harold Queen's homebred filly will be ridden by Joe Bravo. She has been prepping for the Fleur de Lis at trainer David Fawkes base at Gulfstream Park in South Florida.
A head back in third was Pin Oak Stable's homebred Gold Medal Dancer. The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro —Bachata, by Kingmamb, who won the grade II Azeri Stakes in March and was third behind champion Untapable in the Apple Blossom (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park prior to running at Churchill. She has recorded three drills since the La Troienne.
Tiz Windy, another daughter of Tiznow, hopes to turn the tables in the Fleur de Lis. A two-time winner over the strip, Tiz Windy is trained by Carl Nafzger for Ida May Tafel, widow of the late James Tafel. She won the Indiana Oaks (gr. II) last year as a 3-year-old.
A strong threat figures to come from D. P. Racing's Yahilwa, who is another filly by Medaglia d'Oro. Winner of the Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) in April, she was second to Stopchargingmaria May 15 in the DuPont Distaff Stakes (gr. III) at Pimlico. She has earned $399,895 with a 6-4-4 mark in 27 career starts. James Graham picks up the mount for trainer James Cassidy. She blew out three furlongs in :34 3/5 June 9.
