Charlene's Dream became the first black-type stakes winner for sire Qurbaan by taking the $75,000 Pike Place Dancer Stakes Oct. 28 at Golden Gate Fields. The juvenile filly improved to 2-1-0 from three career starts with total earnings of $69,200. The Pike Place Dancer Stakes was contested at a distance of one mile over the turf course for 2-year-old fillies.
The Texas-bred Charlene's Dream was prominent throughout sitting just off the flank of front-runner Tour Queen before taking command at the top of the stretch and gamely holding off the fast-closing Doug O'Neill-trained Angiolleta . The final 1 1/4-length winning margin was carefully measured under the expert guidance of jockey Evin Romans for trainer Ed Moger Jr. and owner Domeyko Taylor.
* The Kentucky-bred Qurbaan, now 10, finished his racing career 7-3-6 from 22 starts with career earnings of $854,408
* The son of Speightstown won the Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2) in both 2018 and 2019.
* He finished second in the Old Forester Turf Classic (G1) at Churchill Downs, and third in the Makers 46 Mile Stakes (G1) and Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland.
* He stood the 2023 season for an advertised fee of $2,500 at Indian Stallion Station in Anderson, Ind. He entered stud in 2020.
Charlene's Dream returned $11.60 to win for her backers in capturing Saturday's race. She was timed on the fast turf in 1:38.32. Angiolletta finished second and the 4-5 race favorite Soho settled for third.
The chestnut was purchased by Taylor for $35,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale out of the Julie Davies consignment.
