What follows are my selections and analysis for the 14 Breeders' Cup races, plus a best bet and live longshot.

Friday, Nov. 3

Juvenile Turf Sprint

1. No Nay Mets

2. Slider

3. Big Evs

Aside from a failure when sent overseas to Royal Ascot, No Nay Mets has registered blowout victories in turf sprints. His speed and consistency give him a narrow edge over the quick Slider from the West Coast and British invader Big Evs.

Juvenile Fillies

Sign up for

1. Candied

2. Tamara

3. Brightwork

Candied is perfect in two starts, including a win in the Alcibiades (G1) at 1 1/16 miles. This contrasts with Tamara and Brightwork, who have won grade 1s but not at a route.

Juvenile Fillies Turf

1. She Feels Pretty

2. Buchu

3. Carlas Way

She Feels Pretty improved to 2-for-2 in dusting the opposition in the Natalma Stakes (G1T), a race that has produced five next-out winners against easier foes. Buchu, a wide winner of the Jessamine Stakes (G2T), looks like her leading domestic challenger, and Carla's Way is a fancied foreign raider.

Juvenile

1. Timberlake

2. Muth

3. Locked

Slow-starting Timberlake settled better with blinkers removed in the one-mile Champagne Stakes (G1), finishing with enthusiasm and suggesting he may appreciate more ground. Muth and Locked are already top-level winners in 1 1/16-mile, two-turn routes.

Juvenile Turf

1. River Tiber

2. Unquestionable

3. Endlessly

European invaders River Tiber and Unquestionable are group 1-placed overseas and seemingly the class. Jockey Ryan Moore lands on River Tiber, who drew well in post 2. California-based Endlessly, 3-for-3, might be the best of the Americans.

Saturday, Nov. 4

Dirt Mile

1. Cody's Wish

2. Charge It

3. Zozos

Fan favorite Cody's Wish looked good in training leading up to the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, a race he won last year at Keeneland against a stronger field. He is better around one turn than two, but he is still likely best. Charge It has kept classy competition and races with blinkers off. Zozos is a legitimate miler.

Filly & Mare Turf

1. Warm Heart

2. In Italian

3. Inspiral

Warm Heart, a winner of two consecutive group 1s overseas, may hold an edge in this 1 1/4-mile turf race against In Italian and Inspiral, two high-class runners accustomed to racing in shorter contests.

Filly & Mare Sprint

1. Society

2. Goodnight Olive

3. Matareya

Spacing between starts has contributed to the always talented but sometimes erratic Society rattling off two stakes wins by large margins. Goodnight Olive, last year's winner and a stalker, draws the fence, a position from which jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. will have to work out a favorable trip. Matareya needs improvement to close the gap on the top two.

Mile

1. Songline

2. Casa Creed

3. Master Of The Seas

Songline is an excellent miler from Japan and appears superior to her Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) counterparts if she runs to his capability. Casa Creed, second to Songline in Saudi Arabia in February, was his usually excellent self in the Fourstartdave Handicap (G1T) this summer at Saratoga Race Course and is drawn better than Master Of The Seas, whose two North American starts this fall were outstanding.

Distaff

1. Pretty Mischievous

2. Clairiere

3. Idiomatic

Pretty Mischievous is the top 3-year-old filly in the country, but she is being paid scant mutuel respect in her first matchup against older fillies and mares (8-1 odds on the morning line). Dismiss the Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner at your peril. Clairiere disappointed twice this summer at Saratoga, though on one occasion, she had an excuse when catching a sloppy track. The massive Idiomatic is the one to beat after triumphs in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) and Spinister Stakes (G1).

Turf

1. Mostahdaf

2. Auguste Rodin

3. Up to the Mark

A dynamite field races in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T), with Mostahdaf given the slight edge over Auguste Rodin and Up to the Mark. Mostahdaf is 3-for-4 this year, his only loss a fourth in the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1T) behind the brilliant Equinox . Auguste Rodin and Up to the Mark are also top-notch.

Classic

1. Ushba Tesoro

2. Arabian Knight

3. Zandon

A depleted group of Americans seemingly makes the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) ripe for a foreign horse to win. The classiest of that group is Japanese runner Ushba Tesoro, who traveled to Meydan Race Course to win the Dubai World Cup (G1) earlier in the year. Arabian Knight is the top domestic hope and one of the best 3-year-olds in the country. Zandon got a confidence-boosting win last out in the Woodward (G2) and has performed at a high level for the past two years.

Turf Sprint

1. Live In The Dream

2. Motorious

3. Jasper Krone

Live In The Dream weakened to fourth when hounded into a hot pace in the Woodford Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland and now cuts back slightly in distance from 5 1/2 to five furlongs. He was a group 1 winner at this trip in August. Late-running Motorious races over his home course at Santa Anita Park and Japan's Jasper Krone has solid credentials.

Sprint

1. Gunite

2. Elite Power

3. Speed Boat Beach

A shortage of pace in the Breeders' Cup Sprint may tip the scales in favor of Gunite in his rivalry with defending race winner Elite Power. Speed Boat Beach is not as accomplished as those two but is perhaps the quickest in the race from an early-speed perspective.

BEST BET: Ushba Tesoro—Classic

LIVE LONGSHOT: Pretty Mischievous—Distaff
