After suffering an injury during the running of the 10th race Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park, Bus Buzz is scheduled for surgery Nov. 5.
The race, an allowance-optional claiming event for 3-year-olds and up won by Hejazi , was the lone race conducted after Friday's five Breeders' Cup races for 2-year-olds at Santa Anita.
Bus Buzz led the six-furlong dirt race through a half-mile in :44.17 before going wrong near the three-sixteenths pole. Jockey Edwin Maldonado pulled the horse up and safely dismounted. A veterinary team quickly arrived, and he was soon vanned off the track.
"Bus Buzz was taken from the track by equine ambulance after today's 10th race at Santa Anita Park," track owner 1/ST Racing said in a statement. "He was transported for evaluation and is now back in his barn. Bus Buzz is scheduled for surgery on Sunday."
Bus Buzz, trained by Steve Knapp, is owned by his breeder Terry Lovingier, along with Thomas Halasz and Amanda Navarro.
