Two Ghosts and Witwatersrand stole the two featured events for 2-year-olds at Woodbine Nov. 4 with clear-cut victories in the CA$150,000 Grey and CA$150,000 Mazarine Stakes.
Campaigned by Hooties Racing, who picked up the Ghostzapper gelding for $85,000 as a yearling at Keeneland September, Two Ghosts rallied from the back of the pack to post a one-length win in the Grey Stakes.
Trained by Barbara Minshall, Two Ghosts ($6.45) raced the 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic main track in 1:44.56 under Justin Stein.
Favored Piper's Factor was second over Jayhawk .
Runner-up in the Display Stakes in his prior outing, the Grey was the first stakes win for Two Ghosts.
One race following the Grey, Witwatersrand ran faster than the males when capturing the Mazarine Stakes for 2-year-old fillies in 1:43.72.
Witwatersrand, a trainee from the barn of leading Canadian trainer Mark Casse, turned heads with her 2 3/4-length triumph over favored Tripolina , who had bested males in the Display Stakes earlier this season.
