Agent Mike Ryan, leading buyer for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale, secured another two-turn prospect Oct. 26; the Into Mischief   colt commanded $310,000 from the Irishman. Denali Stud consigned the colt bred in Kentucky by My Meadowview as Hip 1482 to the final session of the sale.

"It's the same story you have heard for years—quality sells," Ryan said. "He's a beautifully bred, nice, two-turn horse with plenty of size, scope, and stretch for an Into Mischief. He has a serious pedigree; if he can perform on the racetrack, he has a lot of appeal as a stallion."

The bay is out of the winning Tapit   mare, Tin Type Gal , winner of the Miss Grillo Stakes (G3T), Boiling Springs Stakes (G3T), and second in the Sands Point Stakes (G2T). She is a product of the grade 1 winning millionaire Deputy Minister mare Miss Shop .

Further down the page, under his third dam, Shopping, is a sea of black type, including True North Handicap (G2) winner and grade 1 placed sire Trappe Shot , grade 2 placed Bought in Dixie, and stakes winner Shop Again , a graded producer.

The February-born colt is the third foal out of Tin Type Gal, who has produced the placed Medaglia d'Oro   runner Be There. Her juvenile for this year, by Quality Road  , sold to M.V. Magnier/CJ Thoroughbreds/Lee Lewis in 2022, has been breezing at Churchill Downs. The mare has a Curlin   filly for 2023.

Ryan, no stranger to the October Sale, has made 10 purchases this week for various clients, to the tune of $2,195,000, at an average of $219,500. He noted the market as much the same as has been seen all year—competitive but fair for quality.

"We were runner up quite a bit, too, getting hammered a bit, but we feel we got some quality at good value," commented Ryan. "It is the last stop. There are a lot of horses here to look at, a lot of horses to find the ones you want, but there are some nice pedigrees here. As we have seen all week, money is here for the good ones. It's a solid sale and getting better every year with better horses coming over here."

The price tag on the Into Mischief colt didn't surprise Ryan, who noted, "They are averaging $750,000 for the year, and the median is $525,000. It's the end of the year, and I paid less than half of the average. If he can perform, he's a horse with a lot of upside."

Ryan also purchased an Into Mischief on Wednesday—Hip 1069, out of grade 1 placed K P Dreamin—for $220,000. There were seven Into Mischief yearlings sold this week, three of which went for more than $300,000.
