Wicked Halo 's stock, which arguably was already pretty high, climbed even higher after Yuugiri's runner-up finish in the Nov. 4 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). Bypassing the Breeders' Cup, Wicked Halo's connections landed on a softer option away from Santa Anita Park in the Nov. 11 $300,000 Dream Supreme Stakes at Churchill Downs.
The Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred, a gritty competitor in the female sprinters division throughout the year, looms large against a field of six rivals in the six-furlong Dream Supreme. A multiple graded stakes winner at ages 2 and 3, the Steve Asmussen trainee has lacked a graded victory this year but missed by a neck to Filly & Mare Sprint winner Goodnight Olive in the Bed 'o Roses (G2) in May. Last time out she dropped a nose decision to Yuugiri after a spirited stretch battle in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) at Keeneland.
Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the 4-year-old Gun Runner filly, who has never been off the board in six starts on the Churchill strip.
Last Leaf , third in the TCA, returns in the Dream Supreme for owner Monarch Stables and trainer Eddie Keneally. The consistent daughter of Not This Time has been in the money in her last five starts, all in stakes company.
Three-year-old Little Prankster steps up to stakes competition after winning her last three starts, including a 4 1/2-length allowance optional claimer romp at Keeneland Oct. 12.
