Pleasant Acres Stallions is pleased to announce the arrival of Chess Chief , who will stand in Florida for the 2024 breeding season for a $5,000 fee.
Chess Chief is a graded stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes-placed son of Into Mischief , a four-time champion general sire who will stand in 2024 for $250,000 at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky. In 2021, Chess Chief won the Tenacious Stakes and the New Orleans Classic Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. He also placed in four other graded stakes during a career where he was 5-4-5 in 39 starts and earned $931,319. Dallas Stewart trained him for the estate of James Coleman Jr.
He was honored in 2021 as Virginia Horse of the Year and champion Virginia-bred older horse.
"Chess Chief is a wonderful addition to our stallion barn," said Christine Jones, director of stallion services at Pleasant Acres Stallions.
The 7-year-old horse is out of the Mineshaft mare Un Blessed , a half sister to stakes producer Bonnie Byerly, dam of millionaire graded stakes winner Diabolical . Chess Chief's second dam, Plenty of Grace, was a grade 1 winner and is a half sister to champion Soaring Softly.
Chess Chief joins stallions Curlin's Honor (Curlin ), Gone Astray (Dixie Union), Gunnevera (Dialed In ), Leinster (Majestic Warrior ), Magic On Tap (Tapit ), Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief), Neolithic (Harlan's Holiday), No Never No More (Scat Daddy), and Sweetontheladies (Twirling Candy ), at Pleasant Acres Stallions, located just northwest of Ocala.
