Mares in foal to 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline  , offered during the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, are like collector's items; with 10 mares on offer, the chances to buy are scarce. Thirty Year Farm jumped at the opportunity Nov. 9 to add Lady Scarlet  to their farm roster, spending $625,000 to seal the deal.

Lane's End consigned the Union Rags   mare to the first day of selling from Book 2 as Hip 338. A winner of $307,530, including the Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) and Cicada Stakes in 12 starts, Lady Scarlet sold Thursday carrying her first foal. She was bred to the four-time grade 1 winner Flightline on a Feb. 13 cover.

"We loved her," buyer Kristen Esler said. "She was our first pick. She was in my heart from the moment I saw her. She's beautiful and everything we look for in conformation. She was an A+ and carried herself really well. I like to look them in the eye and spend some time. She is one that we wanted to bring to our farm."

The 4-year-old mare out of Exclude  comes from the black-type family of Soldera , a stakes winner in England and producer of Coolmore Lexington Stakes (G2) and Ben Ali Stakes (G3) victor Exhi , as well as French stakes scorer Diluvien .

"This is the mare that was our highest priority," Esler said. "We got one yesterday, and we were happy with that purchase, so we may be set, but we don't know yet."

Flightline stands at Lane's End Farm for $150,000 for 2024, reduced from his initial year at stud when he stood for $200,000.

During Book 1 of the November Sale, four of the six mares in foal to the $4 million earner sold, headlined by the German group 1 winner Dalika , who fetched $1.6 million from Pursuit of Success, consigned as Hip 223 with Case Clay Thoroughbred Management.

Following closely was the $1.45 million Barronstown Stud purchase of Champagne Lady , a half sibling to grade 1-winning sire Mo Town   and Chandelier Stakes (G2) third-place finisher Justique . Lane's End offered the Uncle Mo   mare as Hip 214.

Day 2 saw the competition continue, with Lady Scarlet carrying the torch as the most expensive broodmare offering throughout the day. The seven mares in foal to Flightline sold thus far have grossed $6,625,000 at an average of $946,429.
