Jimmy Creed Retired, to Stand at Spendthrift

Top sprinter Jimmy Creed has been retired from racing and will stand stud in 2014 at his owner B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm near Lexington. A grade I winner by leading sire Distorted Humor , Jimmy Creed sustained a minor injury to the sesamoidean ligament in his right front ankle.
The setback would have required him to miss his year-end goal of the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) Nov. 2 at Santa Anita Park, so the decision was made to retire the 4-year-old colt.
"We were hopeful we could bring Jimmy Creed home to stud after the Breeders' Cup because the entire team was very excited about his chances in the Sprint, but it wasn't meant to be," said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift's general manager. "The great news is that we're going to be able to offer breeders what we believe is a tremendous opportunity to breed to an exciting stallion prospect through our Share the Upside program."
Jimmy Creed scored his biggest career win last winter as a 3-year-old in the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) , running seven furlongs in 1:20.36 on Santa Anita's main track. This year the colt defeated older horses in Santa Anita's Potrero Grande Stakes (gr. II), running 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.03.
"Jimmy Creed is a gorgeous horse with great conformation and exceptional ability," said Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella. "This horse was very fast and very classy, but unfortunately very unlucky, too. Although I feel that the well was only half tapped, I think there's a lucky side to that for the public to be able to breed to him for what will be a good value."
Spendtrhift Farm purchased Jimmy Creed as a yearling out of Book One at the 2010 Keeneland September sale for $900,000. Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Jimmy Creed is out of the grade I-winning and multiple grade I-producing mare Hookedonthefeelin, a full sister to the dam of 2013 Acorn Stakes (gr. I) winner Midnight Lucky, and dam to multiple grade I winner Pussycat Doll and stakes winner Funny Feeling.
Jimmy Creed, retires with earnings of $439,250 from his record of 4-2-2 from 10 starts. He placed in three stakes including the Bing Crosby Stakes (gr. I) and Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes (gr. I). He has shipped to Spendthrift Farm.
His fee will be $12,500, and Jimmy Creed will be offered in limited quantity in the Share the Upside program for $13,500 (stands and nurses) to breeders committed to breeding a mare in 2014 and 2015.
