Red Route One Goes West For Zia Park Derby

Graded stakes winner Red Route One —who has raced at six tracks in nine races across the country this year—adds another stop to his cross-country travels Nov. 28 when he competes at Zia Park in the $300,000 Zia Park Derby.

The late-running Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred 3-year-old son of Gun Runner  , winner of the West Virginia Derby (G3) this year at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort and the Bath House Row Stakes at Oaklawn Park, is the 5-2 second choice on the morning line in the 1 1/16-mile Zia Park Derby.

Joel Rosario, who rode him to win the Bath House Row and in his most recent start when second, beaten a nose, in the Sept. 24 Oklahoma Derby (G3) at Remington Park, is aboard for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Favored at 7-5 in the field of eight sophomores is Gold Square's Slip Mahoney , trained by dual Eclipse Award winner Brad Cox. The rail-dawn 3-year-old Arrogate gray/roan gelding scored last out in the Sept. 23 Bourbon Trail Stakes at Churchill Downs to push his record to 3-for-9 for trainer Brad Cox. Gerardo Corrales rides.

The Zia Park Derby is the last of 10 races Tuesday at Zia Park, seven of which are stakes.

The co-feature is the $300,000 Zia Park Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, in which Flying Connection  and Magic Bubbles  are the headliners. The Oaks, race 9, is also at 1 1/16 miles.
