Moore Takes Fourth Longines World's Best Jockey Title

Ryan Moore easily took the 2023 Longines World's Best Jockey title, notching his fourth overall victory in the competition. The European-based rider was the inaugural recipient of the Longines World's Best Jockey Award, established in 2014, and he also won in 2016 and 2021. Moore ties Frankie Dettori for the most victories with his win this year.
To claim the title, Moore won eight of the world's Top 100 group or grade 1 races.
Moore won this year's award by a comfortable margin of 36 points. The scoring process rewards jockeys for finishing in the top three, giving Moore 156 points on the year. Dettori was second with 120 points, while James McDonald, who won the competition in 2022, was third with 116 points.
The awarding of the Longines World's Best Jockey title is based upon performances in the 100 highest-rated group 1 and grade 1 races as established for the year by the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings Committee. The scoring incorporates races from Dec. 1 of the previous year until Nov. 30 of the current year. Jockeys accrue 12 points for a win, six points for placing second, and four points for placing third.
A ceremony will be held during the gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races Dec. 8 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre to honor Moore. The full standings are available at www.ifhaonline.org.
