Lady de Berry Heads Competitive Jimmy Durante

The $100,000 Jimmy Durante Stakes (G3T), for 2-year-old fillies going one-mile on the turf, drew a field of 11 evenly matched juveniles Dec. 2 at Del Mar.

CHP Racing's Lady de Berry  ships west for trainer Chad Brown off a 1 3/4-length maiden turf victory at Keeneland Oct. 27. The Practical Joke   filly improved dramatically when switched to grass in her second career start and looks to build upon that momentum in Southern California. Bred by Peter E Blum Thoroughbreds, Lady de Berry was a $270,000 purchase at the 2023 Ocala Breeders' Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

Gary Barber's Go With Gusto  merits a long look after finishing second when facing males on the Friday Breeders' Cup undercard in the Qatar Golden Mile Stakes. Trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Mark Casse, the Medaglia d'Oro   filly was forced to check multiple times when blocked during the stretch drive. She finished strongly along the rail when finally finding clear sailing in deep stretch. A live early race flow makes her a big threat from off-the-pace. 

The Teneri Farms' juvenile also finished third against the boys in the Summer Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine Sept. 16. She's still a maiden, however, after being disqualified from first to fifth in her Aug. 13 debut. This will be her first start against fillies and Tyler Gaffalione takes over the riding assignment.

The French-bred Antifona  makes her first start in the United States Saturday and is the most seasoned in the group of juveniles. She's 2-2-0 from seven starts. The Hronis Racing filly, previously trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, is now under the guidance of trainer John Sadler. She won the Prix de Sautre in France Sept. 16 by a nose and may find the firm Southern California turf course to her liking. The filly won her debut over similar footing back in May.
