A proven threat on off tracks, Dr B won the Dec. 2 Go for Wand Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack much the same way she did last year, hustling for the early lead and then drawing away on a muddy track that agreed with the winner and discouraged any late-running rivals. In Saturday's renewal, the Liam's Map mare won by 3 3/4 lengths, covering the one mile in 1:36.49.
Tizzy in the Sky was second, a length ahead of Venti Valentine in a field of five older females.
Dr B had been winless in the five starts and 12 months since taking the 2022 Go for Wand, although her recent efforts included some ambitious spottings against the likes of world-class sprinters Echo Zulu and Goodnight Olive .
"I looked at this race and it looked like she'd like this kind of track today," jockey Jose Lezcano said. "She was very comfortable the first half and I started asking a little bit, but she did pretty good for the whole way almost around."
Trainer Butch Reid acknowledged that Dr B got an assist from the sealed surface: "The track's playing to speed and she likes the track very much, a track just like this—a little moisture on the track, close to the same track as last year, I believe."
Reid identified the Feb. 17 Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3) at Laurel Park as Dr B's next primary target.
Dr B is the fifth of six foals out of the stakes-placed Boleyn. All six have won and two others also are stakes winners.
