Description:

Under a perfectly timed stretch rally by jockey Julien Leparoux, Prado's Sweet Ride passed Lady Zuzu in the final strides to win the $100,000 Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) on Saturday, June 13 at Churchill Downs .

The head victory for the Darrell and Sadie Brommer homebred secured the first stakes win of her career in the Regret, completing the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies in 1:51.88 on firm turf.

Three Chimneys Farm's Lady Zuzu enjoyed a clear lead through a half-mile in :48.49 in the race, and the daughter of Dynaformer maintained that advantage through the turn to open up on the field heading for home under jockey Robby Albarado.

Prado's Sweet Ride finished sixth in her stakes race debut in the Indy Star Stakes May 30 at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino, a loss that ended a three-race win streak. On Saturday night, she raced last of six through six furlongs before Leparoux was able to shift Prado's Sweet Ride out into the clear turning for home and the daughter of Fort Prado   soon gained with every stride.

Trained by Chris Block, Prado's Sweet Ride picked up her fourth win in six career starts. She has earned $135,780.

"They were running at a pretty good pace so were at the back of the pack, but she settled very nicely," said Leparoux, who picked up the mount from Floret Geroux, who had been scheduled to ride. "Trainer (Block) told me that she had a good run but a small run, and to just be patient with her and ask her at the last quarter of a mile only and we won by not that much."

Prado's Sweet Ride returned $21 to win, $6.40 to place, and $4 to show. Lady Zuzu held second and paid $3.80 and $3. Return to Grace finished third and paid $3 to show. Favored Don't Leave Me finished fourth.

Out of the winning General Meeting mare Excellent Idea, Illinois-bred Prado's Sweet Ride is a half sister to stakes-placed winner With a Twist, by Cashel Castle.
