Description:

Arnold Zetcher's Firing Line will sit out the $350,000 Los Alamitos Derby (gr. II) July 4 because of recent foot issues, which forced him to miss a scheduled workout at Santa Anita Park June 6.

"It's not quite cleared up and we've decided against the Los Al race," trainer Simon Callaghan said. "I think it could develop into an abscess, but it's not major. We'll get him right and hopefully look for a summer campaign."

Callaghan said the Line of David   colt, who finished second to American Pharoah in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) May 2, will point to either the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic (gr. I) at Del Mar Aug. 22 or the $1.25 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course (gr. I) Aug. 29.

Callaghan said he was unsure if Firing Line would run in a prep race prior to either.

"We could make it (in the Los Alamitos Derby), but we have decided to wait," Callaghan said.
