Trainer Levine Reaches 2,000-Win Milestone

Trainer Bruce Levine reached the 2,000-win milestone June 13, when Gumpster Stable's Guayana won the sixth race Penn National Race Course by two lengths.
 
The 3-2 favorite, the mare by The Daddy was ridden by Ramon Moya to the benchmark win in the mile allowance race.
 
Levine, who started as a horseplayer, worked for trainers John Russell and John Campo, before going out on his own in 1979. He won his first race with I'm It, November 14, 1979 at Aqueduct Racetrack
 
The 60-year-old conditioner, a mainstay in New York and New Jersey, has been among the top 10 New York Racing Association trainers numerous times, from 2006 through 2010, and in 2012 and 2013.
 
From 11,092 starters, Levine also has sent out 1,750 runners-up and 1,554 third-place finishers. His runners have won 114 stakes and 31 graded stakes, including the 2008 Carter Handicap (gr. I) at Aqueduct with Bustin Stones  . Overall, horses trained by Levine have amassed purse earnings of more than $65.4 million through June 13. 
 
This year, Levine has a 24-21-19 record from 140 starters that have won more than $1 million.
