Pinehurst at Walmac Farm
Walmac Farm's Pinehurst , winner of the 2021 Del Mar Futurity (G1) and a millionaire son of Twirling Candy , sired his first reported foal when a filly out of the winning Klimt mare Lady Jewels was born at Southern Comfort Farm Jan. 12.
The filly's dam is out of a full sister to multiple stakes winner Juliet's Spirit , and a half sister to stakes winners Vuitton , Take Cover , and Gleaming Elegance .
"She is a quality filly with a lot of substance and a beautiful head," said Penny Lopez of Southern Comfort Farm. "We couldn't be happier with the mare's first foal."
Campaigned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert Masterson, Stonestreet Stables, Jay Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital, Catherine Donovan, Golconda Stable, and Siena Farm, Pinehurst proved a runaway winner of the $300,500 Del Mar Futurity at 2. He recorded his most lucrative victory the following year at 3, defeating an international field in the $1.5 million 2022 Saudi Derby (G3) at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Saudi Arabia.
The first foal for Pinehurst is a filly at Southern Comfort Farm
A $385,000 acquisition by SF/Starlight/Madaket at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Pinehurst was bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding and initially sold as a weanling at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $180,000. Prior to joining Walmac's stallion roster, Pinehurst was acquired by Gary Broad in partnership with Kiki and Louise Courtelis' Town and Country Farms in a Fasig-Tipton Digital 'Flash Sale.'
Bred on a similar cross to standout stallion Gun Runner , Pinehurst is by Twirling Candy, a son of the influential Candy Ride . Pinehurst is produced from the Giant's Causeway mare Giant Win, a full sister to grade 3 winner First Passage, who is the dam of graded stakes winner Berned and multiple graded stakes-placed First to Act . He hails from the extended family of multiple graded stakes winner Graeme Hall and grade 1 winner and black-type producer Harmony Lodge.
Pinehurst, who stands for $7,500, banked $1,213,500 in his racing career. He bred 146 mares in 2023, his first season at stud.
