Juddmonte announced Jan. 18 that Mandaloun 's first reported foal is a filly, delivered over the weekend at Goodwin Farm. Owner Jay Goodwin described the foal as "big and strong with a ton of class."
The attractive bay filly is out of the unraced Emcee mare Live to Dance. Live to Dance is out of stakes-producing Gone West mare Life's a Dance whose dam is a full sister to 1991 Canadian Horse of the Year and Eclipse champion 3-year-old filly Dance Smartly and half sister to the breed-shaping stallion Smart Strike. There are no fewer than 14 black-type performers in the first two dams.
A homebred for Juddmonte out of the Empire Maker group 2 winner Brooch , Mandaloun was undefeated in his two starts as a juvenile. He began his 3-year-old campaign with a third in the 2021 Lecomte Stakes (G3) before taking the Risen Star Stakes (G2) in his next start. Mandaloun was promoted to first in that year's Kentucky Derby (G1) after Medina Spirit was later disqualified for a medication positive. Other wins for Mandaloun include the 2021 Haskell Stakes (G1) and Louisiana Stakes (G3).
A son of four-time leading sire Into Mischief , Mandaloun stands at Juddmonte in Lexington for a fee of $20,000 live foal stands and nurses.
