West Omaha and Sistina Chapel —second and third in the Dec. 23 Untapable Stakes—will not have to deal with the filly that defeated them in that race, Alpine Princess , when they lead an eight-horse field in the $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes Jan. 20 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
With Alpine Princess not racing in the Silverbulletday, opportunity presents itself. The race for 3-year-old fillies over a mile and 70 yards offers qualifying points toward the May 3 Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs, with points distributed on a 20-10-6-4-2 scale to its top five finishers.
Gary and Mary West's West Omaha, who, like Alpine Princess, is trained by Brad Cox, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite and likely to dip below that price by post time after a solid effort in the Untapable in which she stalked the pace and lost by two lengths. The daughter of West Coast finished three lengths clear of Sistina Chapel, who rallied from last.
