Undrafted Aims for Diamond Jubilee Upset

A season after finishing fourth in the Darley July Cup (Eng-I) at Newmarket, turf sprinter Undrafted has returned to England to target the six-furlong Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Eng-I) Saturday, June 20 at Royal Ascot.

Australian-based Brazen Beau is favored in the expected field of 15 runners for the $824,250 Diamond Jubilee, the featured race on the prestigious meeting's closing day for 2015.

Undrafted enters the Diamond Jubilee off a runner-up finish to Power Alert's course-record setting performance in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes (gr. IIIT) May 1 at Churchill Downs. Undrafted finished three-quarters of a length behind Power Alert's winning five-furlong run in 55.17.

That runner-up finish on the Churchill turf gave Undrafted his fourth straight stakes placing without a victory. During that stretch, the 5-year-old son of Purim finished third in last year's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park. Frankie Dettori has the mount Saturday.

Undrafted is conditioned by Wesley Ward, who sent out Acapulco to victory in the Queen Mary Stakes (Eng-II) June 17 at Royal Ascot. Ward also plans to saddle Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred Love the Kitten, with Joel Rosario up, in Saturday's Chesham Stakes for 2-year-olds, which will begin the day's races at 2:30 p.m. local time (9:30 a.m. EDT).

Brazen Beau is favored in the Diamond Jubilee off his second career group I score in Australia, a 2 3/4-length win in the about six-furlong Lexus Newmarket Handicap March 14 at Flemington. Brazen Beau, as well as Wandjina, will try to become the third Australian-based horse to win the Diamond Jubilee in the past dozen years.
