Mr. Jordan Looks Tough in Pegasus at Monmouth

Description:

Stakes winners Bodhisattva and Mr. Jordan will do battle in the $150,000 Pegasus Stakes (gr. III) June 21 at Monmouth Park. The 1 1/16-mile test drew a field of eight 3-year-olds to the New Jersey shore.

Bodhisattva was last seen in the Xpressbet.com Preakness Stakes (gr. I), the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, where he was eased and finished last of eight at odds of nearly 30-1 behind American Pharoah. He was entered in the Preakness off a Pimlico Race Course victory in the Federico Tesio Stakes in April, in which he led most of the way and scored impressively at the Pegasus distance. He is two-for-two going 1 1/16 miles and has hit the board in eight of 12 lifetime starts.

Mr. Jordan figures to be forwardly-placed in the Pegasus. In late April, he won the Tarpon Stakes at Gulfstream Park going one mile, and before that, was second to the highly-regarded Competitive Edge in the Tamarac Stakes at seven furlongs. He was a perfect three-for-three last year, including a facile win in the Smooth Air Stakes, again leading at every call at a flat mile.

Good Pick Nick has strung four good races together. After a pair of seconds at Tampa Bay Downs, he broke his maiden going a mile at Aqueduct Racetrack in April with a sweeping move from the back of the pack. He most recently ran second in an allowance/optional claimer at Belmont Park behind The Truth Or Else

Chipit is undefeated in two lifetime starts, winning at Gulfstream in March and April. He will be stretching out from a score at seven furlongs in allowance optional claiming company. Tekton caught the eye at Pimlico May 21, winning an allowance/optional claimer by 10 3/4 lengths. He should be in a good stalking spot in the Pegasus.

Dontbetwithbruno ran an even third in the Parx Derby May 2 after an allowance victory in mid-April. Three races back he tried the Gotham Stakes (gr. III), coming home sixth well back of El Kabeir. Ambidextrous Alex sprinted to a good second going six furlongs at Monmouth in allowance/optional claiming competition May 31, after a distant third in the same conditions three weeks earlier. Instant Replay won in allowance optional claiming company three back but needs to show more of a late kick.
