The $175,000 Toboggan Stakes (G3), Feb. 3 at Aqueduct Racetrack, has drawn a field of seven older horses for the seven-furlong dirt test with Michael Dubb, The Elkstone Group, Titletown Racing Stables, and America's Pastime Stables' Murray looking to add black type to his resume.
The Toboggan will be Murray's first stakes start since he was fifth in the 2021 Del Mar Futurity (G1) as a 2-year-old. Formerly trained by Bob Baffert, the 5-year-old son of Street Sense was transferred to trainer Brittany Russell last summer and hit the board in his next four outings up in Maryland, including two victories in allowance-level events.
Murray cuts back in trip in Saturday's race after finishing second in a third-level one-mile allowance Dec. 31 at Laurel Park. He had previously trounced his rivals by 4 1/4 lengths when sprinting six furlongs Nov. 2.
Manny Franco has the call on Murray, an 8-1 shot on the morning line.
Trainer Will Walden told New York Racing Association publicity that Susan Moulton's graded stakes winner Manny Wah, who was cross-entered in Saturday's Forego Stakes at Turfway Park, is headed north from Kentucky to race at Aqueduct.
"The seven-eighths is a little bit of a question, but I don't see any reason why he won't handle the surface there," Walden said.
