Wilson, Contreras Injured in Gulfstream Spill

Description:

Jockeys Emma-Jayne Wilson and Luis Contreras were taken to the hospital following a three-horse spill in the fourth race Feb. 8 at Gulfstream Park.

Contreras was complaining of a cut lip after his mount, Recall Dynaformer, who was in eighth at the six-furlong mark in the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight race on turf, swerved out while falling approaching upper stretch.

Wilson was aboard Jeremy's Song, who fell over the stricken horse as did Barley Twist, with Abdiel Jaen aboard. Jaen walked back to jocks' room, but Wilson was transported to the hospital complaining of a sore lower back. Contreras also went for treatment.

Recall Dynaformer, a Charles Fipke homebred trained by Roger Attfield, was vanned off for further evaluation. Calumet Farm's Barley Twist, a Dale Romans trainee, also was vanned off.

Jeremy's Song, trained by Gary Contessa for a partnership, got up and ran off and was later caught by an outrider.

Track stewards conducted an inquiry into the incident but took no action.
