Toward the close of the second day of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale Feb. 6, North Ocean Equine secured an Into Mischief short yearling colt for $650,000 from the Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for the Lothenbach Stables complete dispersal.
The colt, Hip 494, is a half sibling to Chilukki Stakes (G3) winner She Can't Sing . The Bernardini mare, a winner of $883,558 in 39 starts for late owner/breeder Bob Lothenbach, sold nine hips earlier for $1.1 million to Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.
"I was hoping to get him for around $500,000-$550,000," bloodstock agent Renee Logan said of the Into Mischief yearling purchase. "However, knowing who (buyers) were in there, I knew it (the price) would push as much as he did. If you want a nice horse, you will have to pay for it, especially a premium."
The Kentucky-bred, February-born colt is out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Distorted Music .
More distant in the pedigree are grade/group 1 winners Music Note and Musical Chimes .
Logan added: "I liked the fact that he was very well-balanced and had a beautiful walk, very correct, and he is a half sibling to a great filly that just hit (over) $1 million (in the ring), which vindicated our decision more, hence why we went the extra mile. He's a nice horse, and the fact that he wasn't overly prepped stuck out to me; what I saw is what he actually is."
