Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) winner Vicar's in Trouble breezed five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 the morning of Feb. 9 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in preparation for the Risen Star Stakes (gr. II) on Louisiana Derby Preview Day Feb. 22.
The Risen Star, at 1 1/16 miles, is the second leg of the local sophomore series at the New Orleans track. The series will conclude with the 100th renewal of the $1 million Louisiana Derby (gr. II) at nine furlongs March 29, penultimate day of the current 2013-2014 Fair Grounds season.
This winter, Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Vicar's in Trouble has been under the care of Joe Sharp, assistant to trainer Mike Maker. The work Sunday was the fifth fastest of 80 at the distance on the Fair Grounds work list.
The dark bay colt has worked twice since his 6 3/4-length score in the one mile and 70 yard Lecomte Jan. 18. He drilled a half-mile in :49 2/5 over the Fair Grounds main track Feb. 2.
By Into Mischief out of the Vicar mare Vibrant, Vicar's in Trouble was bred in Louisiana by Spendthrift Farm. He has won two of three starts with earnings of $148,900.
