Lochte Pulls GP Turf 'Cap Upset

Crossed Sabres Farm's Lochte charged up the rail and pulled off a huge shock in the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (gr. IT) at Gulfstream Park Feb. 9, scoring an open-length win at 35-1 odds, the longest shot in the field.
 
Ridden by Orlando Bocachica for trainer Marcus Vitali, Lochte rated in third behind the steady pace set by Tetradrachm, who was pursued throughout by Amira's Prince. Lochte willingly lengthened stride when asked to dispatch Tetradrachm in early stretch and drew off to score. Imagining swiftly closed ground from off the pace to snatch second from third-place finisher Amira's Prince. Lochte paid $80.60.
 
Lochte was timed in 1:45.67 for 1 1/8 miles on a firm course.
 
Lochte, bred in Kentucky by Maura Gittins, is a 4-year-old gelding by Medaglia d'Oro   out of stakes winner Lemon Kiss, by Lemon Drop Kid. He came into the race off an allowance optional claiming victory going 1 1/16 miles Jan. 24 at Gulfstream. He broke his maiden there two starts prior to that going the same distance Dec. 14.
