With a weather forecast calling for persistent rain, Santa Anita Park has announced Feb. 29 that there will be no live racing March 2 and that the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and three other graded stakes will be shifted to Sunday, March 3, with first post time for a 10-race card at 12:30 p.m. PT A much more favorable weather scenario is anticipated Sunday, with a forecast of sunny skies and a high temperature of 62 degrees.
Accordingly, the decision to move Saturday's card to Sunday was made in consultation with Dennis and Robert Moore, who oversee Santa Anita track maintenance, as well as with officials from the California Horse Racing Board, Thoroughbred Owners of California, California Thoroughbred Trainers, and Jockeys' Guild.
California tracks operate under strict inclement weather protocols.
The Santa Anita Handicap, Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1T), San Felipe Stakes (G2) and the Buena Vista Stakes (G2T) will highlight what figures to be a tremendous afternoon of racing on Sunday.
Entries for Sunday's 10-race card will be available during the day on Thursday.
Additionally, those races originally scheduled for this Sunday, March 3, will now be drawn Thursday and carded on Monday, March 4, with regular first post time at 12:30 p.m.
