Possessed Takes Off-The-Turf NY Stallion

Daniel Hayden and trainer Charlton Baker's Possessed stalked and rallied to a visually impressive win in the $100,000 Spectacular Bid Division of the New York Stallion Stakes  impressively at Belmont Park June 21.



Under the guidance of jockey Jose Ortiz, the 3-year-old Posse   colt took over the seven-furlong dirt test—which was moved off the turf because of wet conditions—at the top of the stretch and drew clear to win by 6 3/4 lengths, ahead of second-place finisher Secured Position.



Fenwick Hall was third, another 4 1/2 lengths behind, followed by Ex Ex Ex. Mark My Style, Memories of Peter, and Payment Terms were scratched.



Secured Position set fractions of :22.82 and :46.49 through a half-mile, before Possessed took over and hit the wire in 1:25.17 over a track rated as muddy.



"We got a little luck, the race came off the grass and there were a lot of scratches," Baker said. "We got a great ride and it was a great race. I'm going to eventually try to run him on the turf. I think there's another Stallion Series in Saratoga. Maybe we'll try that spot, but we'll definitely try the grass to see where he's at."



Possessed was bred by Grapestock, out of the Mr. Greeley mare Ibetyouwishyouknew, and has $195,575 in earnings with a 3-3-1 record from nine career starts.

Dreamboat Annie, owned in partnership by Crown Stable, Who Wudda Thunk Racing, and Debora Kinns, won the fillies NYSS—the Cupecoy's Joy Division
—with a three-quarter-length victory over Perfect Freud.



It was the Freud   filly’s third win from four starts in her second stakes try.



With John Velazquez aboard for trainer Leah Gyarmati, Dreamboat Annie stalked and surged late to run the seven furlongs in 1:25.64.
