Owner-Breeder Mack Robinson Dies at Age 90

Atlanta businessman and philanthropist J. Mack Robinson, a prominent Thoroughbred owner and breeder, has died at age 90.
In horse racing and breeding, Robinson may be best known for campaigning Lucky Roberto, winner of the 1998 Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course. Robinson, who most recently started a horse in 2011, ranked in the top 100 owners in wins and earnings in both 2001 and 2002.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Robinson, who found success in insurance, fashion, media, and banking died Feb. 7 from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Other graded stakes winners started by Robinson included two-time grade III winner Crash Course, a homebred, and grade III winner Race Artist, who he co-bred with Linda Miller. Other stakes winners bred by Robinson include Cherokee Artist, Indian Legend, and Cherokee Queen.
Robinson's daughter, Jill Robinson, campaigned 1994 champion sprinter Cherokee Run.
Robinson will be buried in a private ceremony. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta.
